Tis the season to be working on New Year’s Resolutions, right? Like most people, it’s easy to set a New Year’s Resolution, but the tough part is following through with what you pick. It’s easy to set the bar high, but what if you only had one resolution to hit? Wouldn’t it be easier to achieve?

Last week I received an e-mail from a co-worker with a link to an article written by Mari Smith (Facebook guru and author of her new book, The New Relationship Marketing). In her blog post, she talked about selecting ONE word as a theme for the year. For her, words like Focus, Team, Commitment, and Growth have guided her actions throughout the last several years.

After I read her post, I realized that we actually do this, but in reverse. It’s easy to look back and select a word that defines what the previous year looked like, but what if you took a proactive approach, and selected a word ahead of time? What would your year look like then?

So, my New Year’s Resolution is to select a word to that will help guide the direction of the company in the coming year. In 2011, our word was Change (of which we just identified). We spent a great amount of time evaluating what was working, what wasn’t, and made changes where it seemed appropriate. Our word for 2012, is Deliver! We have evaluated, taken action, and now its time to put our expertise to action and Deliver what we promise. We look forward to delivering our commitments to our customers, while exceeding our brand standards and core values.

What’s one word that you would choose to guide your business? I look forward to hearing from you. If you’re interested, check out the Mari Smith article I referred to above.
