Juggling the Irons in Your Fire

Written by

Spring is a time for growth and new life, and we’re experiencing that here at Serendipity Media! We have new products launching online and in print, we're constantly switching gears with others, while at the same time maintaining and updating things that we've published for years. Needless to say, we have a lot of irons in the fire.
I’m sure you know what that feels like—and you know what it feels like to feel almost out of control. It’s at those moments you need to have a plan to make it all work.

Ask for Help
. I know this sounds basic, but it is critical when your cup runneth over. The first thing I did was communicate with people that needed to know what was going on, so they would understand why I may not be getting back to them right away. After that, I went through my to-do list to see what I could delegate.

Prioritize. I had to make tough decisions on what got done first. It’s important to be realistic with what you can do and make tough decisions on what has to get done today and what gets put off. It's okay if some things don’t get done in the timeline you would normally expect, provided it doesn’t impact someone else’s workload.

Trust Your Team
. I must say that I have the best team out there! They have all taken ownership to simply get it done. As a business owner, you put together a group of people based on their expertise and knowledge. You do that so when you can’t be there, you know that things will continue to move forward with the quality and attention to detail as if you were there. I am so fortunate to have a team who takes pride in their work and are so supportive—trust the people you’ve hired to do their job!

Stay Positive
. Do you look at things half empty or half full? I tend to look at things half full. Everyday I remind myself that things aren’t as bad as they seem. Don’t get me wrong, I have moments where I get frustrated because there’s so much going on, but when you take a step back and look at what’s important, it makes it so much easier.

We don’t know what may come our way, but at the end of the day, asking for help, prioritizing what can and can’t get done, trusting those around you, and staying positive makes the world of a difference.
